Manzanares del Real Castle 3D model

The Mendoza’s Castle

The New Castle of Manzanares el Real, located in Madrid, Spain, is a 15th-century palace-fortress built over a Romanesque-Mudejar church. Situated at the foot of the Guadarrama mountain range and beside the Manzanares River, it was constructed by the Mendoza family, one of Castile's most influential noble houses during the Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The castle replaced a previous fortress near the site, also owned by the Mendoza family. Known for its historical significance, it served as the family residence and has been well-preserved through the centuries. Today, it stands as an emblem of medieval architecture and is a key historical site in the region.

Building 3D scanning process

We scanned this castle using a Mavic Enterprise Advanced drone, capturing images with an oblique flight mission. A total of 500 images were processed from multiple pre-programmed flights, lasting about 60 minutes. The geometry and textures were processed with Agisoft Metashape software, allowing us to define the number of faces in the 3D mesh. This created a lightweight model without the need for complex decimation or low-resolution texture projection. Agisoft then generated a JPEG texture at a suitable resolution for 3D visualization on Sketchfab.
