Capturing the Wild Heart of Veracruz
Digitizing the Wild: 3D Scanning Mexico’s Hidden Jungle
In early January 2025, we set out on an ambitious expedition into one of Mexico’s most remote and untamed regions. Our mission was to scan and digitally preserve the dense jungle surrounding a hidden waterfall, creating a hyper-realistic 3D model of one of the country’s most secluded natural wonders. This project was a fusion of cutting-edge technology and the ancient rhythms of the natural world. At its heart was a vital purpose — to protect a fragile ecosystem in the heart of Veracruz, threatened by expanding agriculture and the growing impacts of climate change. The rugged terrain, rich in biodiversity and shrouded in mystery, offered the perfect setting for our high-fidelity environmental modeling work.
Capturing Veracruz’s Wild Beauty with Cutting-Edge Tech
To bring this vibrant landscape into the digital realm, the team employed a groundbreaking method known as Gaussian Splatting — a revolutionary form of context capture celebrated for its ability to render organic forms and dense vegetation with lifelike precision. Armed with the handheld XGRIDS Lixel K1 spatial camera, they completed an unprecedented full-area scan in just one hour. Complementing the spatial capture data, the team also used advanced photographic equipment to document every shadow, shimmer, and texture of the jungle. Now, you can experience a piece of that journey. Explore the virtual tour created from their scans — and take flight within the emerald jungles of Mexico’s wild interior.
The gallery below highlights the remarkable results achieved using our advanced Hyper-Realistic 3D modeling process. Each image represents an actual 3D capture of a real location, demonstrating the exceptional level of realism made possible through 3D Gaussian Splatting technology.
The jungle context data capture process
At Arquiavis, every project starts with a sense of adventure — and our journey into the remote forests of Veracruz was no exception.
Our mission: to scan and digitally preserve the jungle surrounding a secluded waterfall, creating a hyper-realistic 3D twin of one of Mexico’s most untouched natural areas. The first challenge? Access. With the main bridge collapsed and no public entry available, our team trekked through rugged terrain, facing mud-slick trails, tangled undergrowth, and rainforest humidity.
Armed with cutting-edge, lightweight scanning equipment, we captured the landscape in record time using advanced context capture technology. From towering trees to the forest floor, every detail was digitized with precision, then processed through AI to generate a photorealistic 3D model.
This technology enables faster, more efficient preservation of wild spaces for storytelling, research, and creative projects. For us, it’s not just data — it’s the journey, the story, and the wild beauty we bring back, pixel by pixel.
