"Cresta del Gallo” Murcia (Spain)
Deep within the rugged heart of the Parque Regional El Valle y Carrascoy, nestled in the eastern center of the Region of Murcia, lies the awe-inspiring "Cresta del Gallo." This vast natural reserve, formed by a series of pre-coastal mountain ranges, marks the boundary between two distinct worlds: the fertile fields of the Huerta de Murcia and the windswept plains of the Campo de Cartagena.
On the western side rises the mighty Sierra de Carrascoy, crowned by its highest peak at 1,065 meters—a formidable climb that promises a thrilling challenge for even the most experienced adventurers. But it’s to the east where the true allure beckons. Here, the Cresta del Gallo stretches like a dragon’s spine across the landscape, its towering red rocks sculpted by time and wind into the shape of a majestic rooster’s crest. The largest of these formations, known affectionately by the locals as La Panocha, stands at 528 meters, an imposing sentinel over the valley below.

Summit 3D scanning process
We set our sights on the mountain summit of la cresta del gallo, renowned as a haven for rock climbers from all corners of Murcia. With the precision of a Mavic 2 drone, we soared across the landscape, capturing hundreds of oblique aerial images for the photogrammetry model. In just 20 minutes, this powerful drone scanned every crevice and crag of the terrain, revealing the intricate beauty of the rock face. The raw data was then meticulously processed using Agisoft Metashape, transforming the landscape into a stunning 3D model. Each jagged edge and curve was faithfully reconstructed, while the software fine-tuned the geometry, optimizing it into a lightweight, yet highly detailed mesh. The textures were brought to life with incredible realism, their fine details so vivid that the very rocks seemed to tell their own ancient story. This 3D masterpiece now stands ready to be explored from every angle, a testament to the beauty and complexity of this natural wonder.
